Scalloped Potatoes

Scalloped potatoes are a comfort food with the bubbling of hot white sauce and if you like, can add cheddar cheese, just before you take it out of the oven, potatoes are so versatile you can add any kind of meats to them, my favourite is ham I love the aroma of the ham when cooking.


  • 5 lbs Potatoes

  • 2 large Onions Sliced

  • 2 tbsp Paprika

    White Sauce

  • 2 cups cold milk

  • 2 tbsp corn starch

  • 1/4 cup margarine

    In sauce pan, gradually stir milk into corn starch, add margarine, salt and pepper.

    Stirring constantly, bring to boil for one minute. Remove from heat.

    Peel and slice potatoes and layer them in 9x13 pan, alternating with onions and white sauce,finish with the white sauce then sprinkle with paprika.

    Bake at 350 degrees for one hour or until brown.

    Servings: 12

    Here is a suggestion for variety add... One of the following.

  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 2 cups cheez whiz
  • 2 cans cream of mushroom soup
  • To the potatoes above, and cook at 350 degrees for one hour.

    Servings: 12

    Tip: Need to stretch this dish? just add 2 lbs of carrots thinly sliced, alternating with the potatoes and top off with 3 cups of old cheddar cheese.....delicious.
