Apple Fritter...Like Grandmas

Apple fritter is an old fashion dessert, they were

served frequently in the winter months because apples can be

stored and kept for long periods of time and was a great source

of vitamins and minerals, but you can add them to your breakfast

or brunch menu. Kids love fritters with syrup or dusted with

icing sugar.There is nothing that welcome fall as much as

going to pick fresh apples at the apple grove, the aroma, color,

crisp juicy texture and delicate flavor of an apple, you will

never smell that in the grocery store.

You will need to use a cooking apple like Cortland, Golden Delicious, or Gravenstein because the apple need to be firm not soft like a eating apple.

1 medium apple = 4-5 apple rings

You can also sauteed these apple rings.


  • Peel 8 apples sliced crosswise 1/4 inch thick take core out, and add to water with 2 tbsp lemon juice.


  • 4 eggs
  • 1 cup milk
  • beat together add

  • 2 cups flour
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 4 tsp melted shortening

    For sprinkling over fritters

  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 2 tsp cinnamon

    Apple fritters make easy

  • 2 cups (500 ml) buttermilk pancake mix
  • 1 cup (250 ml) milk
  • 1 cup (250ml) soda water (pop)
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tsp (5 ml) vanilla
  • 3 large apples
  • oil for deep frying
  • ½ cup (125 ml) sugar
  • 1 tsp (5ml) cinnamon


    Combine the pancake mix, milk, soda water, eggs and vanilla.

    Beat until smooth.

    Peel and core apples and cut into thick rings.

    Use a long fork dip each ring in batter and slip into hot oil.

    Fry until golden brown, drain on paper towels. Serve three per

    person , dust with cinnamon and sugar, and eat with syrup or

    your favourite sauce.
